Katie Charland, Campus Minister

My name is Katie Charland and I’m from Ingleside, Illiniois. I enjoy playing hockey, reading, and hiking. I have my Bachelor’s in Law Enforcement from WIU and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bradley University Online. This is my second year as campus minister and I am looking forward to sharing the faith and growing closer to God.

Paula Ramirez, Campus Minister

Prior to migrating to the U.S, I attended an all-girls Catholic school for 9 years in the outskirts of Bogota,
Colombia. There, I not only learned the basic tenets of Catholicism, but I also began to foster a strong
relationship with God. In 2008, I moved to the U.S where a new phase in my life began. Besides
adjusting to the new culture, I became involved in extracurricular activities included things like
basketball, volleyball, track and cross-country, as well as other organizations like math team, art club,
band, and student council. However, I particularly felt a strong connection with music. My love for music
tied with my strong beliefs of giving back to the community led me to choose the Music Therapy
program here at WIU. Currently, I am a junior Music Therapy and Psychology double major. Besides
having the honor to serve as one of Newman’s campus ministers, I serve as secretary for the Music
Therapy Association, and I am an active member of Golden Key and NCSC.
